Debate

The BSM debate program is a competitive debate program that emphasizes Minnesota Classic and Public Forum debate styles.   Both Classic and Public Forum compete in a team debate format (in other words students compete with a partner).  The season begins in September and runs through December.  Some students choose to attend the National Forensic League Qualifier tournament held in January.  The Minnesota State High School League offers a state tournament in December for Classic debate in which four teams from BSM may compete.  The goal of the program is not only to teach the process of debate to students but also to strengthen reading, writing, researching, reasoning and public speaking skills while engaging students in timely topics that are relevant in everyday life.  Students debate two topics during the season - one topic in October and a different topic in November.
