KAHNversations 2015-2016

All BSM parents are invited to attend one or more of the programs in Parenting KAHNversations. Led by Dr. Steve Kahn, BSM's school psychologist, this series consists of sessions specifically targeted toward parenting teenagers. Not only do these informal meetings provide useful parenting strategies, they also provide a great opportunity to connect with other BSM parents. Come to one or all sessions.  Bring your own lunch or help yourself to the snacks and refreshments provided. All meetings are held in the library conference room.

Now what? Parenting now that they’re teenagers

So much changes once our children become teenagers but some parts of parenting shouldn’t change. Here are Dr. Kahn’s favorite strategies for remaining intimately connected to your child during their teenage years. Learn how to share, advise and discipline so that their ears stay open and that they continue to care about what you think and say.

Strengthening our Parenting Team

This presentation will start from the point where two loving parents who are also in love with each other are disagreeing about how to handle parenting. When we are falling in love and deciding who to marry, there are many factors to consider but “co-parenting” doesn’t always make it to the list!

Tuesday, February 9, 2016 from 11:30 – 1:00

Insightful Parenting

Here is Dr. Kahn’s core message. Protect the connection. Forgive instantly. Discipline with reassurance. Honor sovereignty. Celebrate mistakes and disappointments. Present our lives as models. If you can only make one talk this year, this is the one.

Wednesday, April 13 from 11:30 – 1:00

Senior Panel

Please join us for the annual panel presentation by BSM seniors. In the past, this has been the “can’t miss” program. Seniors share their perspective on academic pressure, dating, weekends, alcohol and drugs, and getting along with parents.
